THREE YEAR DEGREE COURSES [6 Semesters]

The College is affiliated to Gauhati University for Three Year Degree Course (Semester System) in both Science and Arts streams. The three year degree course leads to the degree of Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) for arts student and Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) for Science students. The course consists of Six (6) Semesters, two (2) Semesters in one academic year. The College offers both General and Major Courses.

A student of Major Course in B.A. is required to offer 1st Subsidiary subject, 2nd Subsidiary subject (English and MIL/Alt. English) and English (1st & 2nd Sem.). [Environmental Studies will replace English in 3rd and 4th Semester.] For students offering Major Course in Language subjects, their 2nd Subsidiary subject (i.e., MIL or Alternative English) will be any other language than the one opted for Major. However, such students can opt for a non-language subject as their 2nd Subsidiary as well. Further, English Major Students need to take Different English (1st & 2nd Sem.) which is a part of general English paper in lieu of the grammar portion. In the 5th and 6th Semester the Major subject will comprise Six (6) papers.

A student of General Course in B.A. shall offer 1st Elective, 2nd Elective, 3rd Elective [i.e., MIL/ Alternative English] and English [1st and 2nd Semesters]. In the 3rd and 4th Semester Environmental Studies will peplace English. In the 5th and 6th Semesters the students are required to study two (2) papers each of their 1st Elective, 2nd Elective and 3rd Elective.

For B.Sc. Major Course, apart from the Major subject, a student shall have to offer 1st Subsidiary subject, 2nd Subsidiary subject and English (1st & 2nd Sem.). The same combination will continue in the 3rd and 4th Semester except for English which will be replaced by Environmental Studies. In the 5th and 6th Semester the Major subject will comprise Six (6) papers.

A student of B.Sc. General Course shall offer 1st Elective, 2nd Elective and 3rd Elective along with English (1st and 2nd Semesters). In the 3rd and 4th Semester Environmental Studies will peplace English. In the 5th and 6th Semester there will be two (2) papers each of the 1st Elective, 2nd Elective and 3rd Elective

NB.: Environmental Studies is a compulsory subject in the 3rd Semester (Environmental Studies I, Total 50 marks) and 4th Semester (Environmental Studies II, Total 50 marks).

*** Students of 3rd/ 4th Semester have to:-

    1. attend classes on Environmental Studies compulsorily.
    2. have to take theory paper examination in the Semester end examination.
    3. to get pass marks separately on the field study and on the theory paper.

**** In addition to the above three points, students of the 4th Semester have to:-

  1. attend/ participate in a field study to study a particular locality arranged by the College on the date and time notified by the programme coordinators of the concerned departments .
  2. have to submit a report on the field study for evaluation.
  3. have to secure pass marks separately on the field study and on the theory paper.

Students failing to fulfill the above mentioned points will be declared FAIL not only in the subject ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES, but also in the whole examinations.

**** Fee prescribed for Environmental Studies is Rs. 75/- (Rupees Seventy Five only) per head for Field Study/trip. Excess amount (if any) incurred in the field study will have to be borne by the students concerned of the respective group.

General Course

To apply for admission into B.A. and B.Sc. General Course the candidate must secure minimum of 40% in aggregate in 10+2 examination.

For Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) Major Courses following subjects are offered in the following subjects:-

The intake capacity of Major in all subjects is 35 (Thirty Five) only. Only students who have secured 45% in aggregate and 45% in concerned subject are eligible to apply for Major except in Bodo. A Candidate willing to apply for Bodo Major must secure a minimum 50% or above in the concerned subject and 45% in aggregate. Admission is on merit basis.

Note:

1. A student offering Major in language subject, viz. Assamese, Bodo, Bengali, English and Hindi is NOT allowed to take the same language as 2nd Subsidiary subject ; eg, Assamese MIL in case of Assamese Major, Bodo MIL in case of Bodo Major, Alternative English in case of English Major, etc.

2. English Major students need to take Different English (1st & 2nd Sem.) which is a part of general English paper in lieu of the grammar portion.
